The 10% Rule to greater success and happiness!

February 25, 2016

You know that I cured my cancer using the 10% Rule! There is a big irony in my story. A 40-year-old lady called me from Dr. Chen’s clinic in California and said, “I took your psychology 101 class twenty years ago. I should have listened to you. Now I have cancer. What do I do?” I said, “Don’t be hard on yourself. People don’t listen to professors because they don’t really know who has the best information – on any topic. It is not too late. Check me out on Google, find my blogs and websites and plan better, after all you did go to see my best friend in California Dr. Chen, who is the best doctor for what he does.”

The 10% Rule says that in any situation the best 10% data that can make the big difference in your life is not readily available unless you know how to ask for it.”

I will now give you the 10% information that you can apply to any situation and get the answer why people do what they do to you or to each other. By nature of the definition it will not appear in any book or psychology textbook unless you know how to ask for it. You will be able to apply it only if you know how to ask for it. This catch 22 prevents many people from benefitting from the 10% data I am about to give you. I hope that you are not one of them. The way to know if you are applying it is to look at your life every day for the next 20 years and find out that you don’t have a major problem and don’t need to call me!

Here it is:

When you deal with people from this moment on, look for 2 kinds of behaviors, those that will do things for you unconditionally and those that will do things for you conditionally. Do not get close to those that do things for you unconditionally. You will not progress. You will lose initiative and also stay dependent, and many other problems. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Then look for the other kind of behavior, those that will do things to protect their family and nation unconditionally and those that will do things to protect their family and nation conditionally. Do not get close to those who would do things for their family and nation conditionally. You will not progress. Without protecting and building your family and nation you will fail to advance. These 2 kinds of behaviors are the “hidden” 10% information about everything about your life. It applies to millions of situations. Invite the new person in your life to interact with your family to see how he behaves with them, for example. Now, if you have the courage to reflect, look at your life and find those situations that hinder your progress and discover the culprit. Do it right based on the 2 rules that I have just given you! Be a winner!

The most effective and the most ignored psychologist ever!

July 23, 2015

His name was B. F. Skinner and he wrote Waldon II, the most ignored book ever about how to build a great society! His Co-up experiment failed because he never took the Likert Scale seriously.  How to measure and apply rewards and punishments? We psychologists forgive him because there is a saying in psychology that the person who starts a movement tend to leave filling in the details to his followers. B. F. Skinner was the Father of Behaviorism.

The BLS today is not used. Is the Behavioral Likert Scale (BLS) difficult to use by the average person? No, it isn’t used because it takes schooling. Can learning and applying the BLS improve your finances? Yes. Improve your love life? Yes. Improve your health? Yes. Improve your happiness feeling? Yes. So, what are you waiting for?

Learning a few rules that may be taught today in only 1 out of 10 Psychology PhD programs in Universities could help, 1) Reward increases behavior and punishment decreases behavior. So, if you don’t make enough money ask yourself how you punished your behavior that may have led to wealth? If your friend gives attention to others more than she notices you, ask yourself, “how do I punish her attention giving behavior to me, inadvertently?, And so on, 2) The “punishment must fit the crime.” If you go to the dentist to fix a tooth and the pain of the fixing is greater than the pain of the cavity, you will end with many bad teeth, if you often spank your kid or reward him for stealing cookies from the cookie jar, you are in the business of making an obese person, if you tell your kid, “Dad will punish you when he comes home from work for what you did this morning in school,” you are creating a psychopath, and so on.

The business of life improves with awareness (consciousness) of antecedents and consequences (be aware of what you say and do).

This posting is one of the best advice that I have ever given you !

CNN expert: Terrorists tend to behave normal!

May 5, 2015

Every day I get up at 9 AM and turn on the TV. Watching CNN is the fastest way for me to wake up fully alert because I am guaranteed to hear and see the best believable absurdities on CNN.  Yesterday it was about terror in Texas, today its is about a conference on terrorism. But today the so-called “news” topped them all when an “expert” on CNN declares that terrorists act normal untill they commit a terror act. Freud, Skinner and million other psychologists who researched that body language, gestures, facial expressions are a give away, let alone verbal expressions would object. I have alway suspected that society doesn’t believe in psychological research except when it comes to the distorted “professional” opinions of “selected” psychiatrists in some court cases!

Listen, you don’t need to be a psychologist to know that any behavior by any human being gives out signals and has antecedents and consequences. A good interpretation of the electronic Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) can even tell you the probability of a divorce within the first 7 years of your marriage (you call it the 7 years itch). The whole existence of psychology is to predict the probability of future behaviors. CNN makes me feel with its selection of “experts” that the human race still lives in the Neanderthal’s caves when it comes to knowing future behavior. A terrorist is boarding a plane with the intention to blow it up. Chances are that a million dollars sophisticated electronic detection device will not pick him up but a well-trained 22-year-old girl will! All it takes is for her to graduate from a community college program designed by a behavioral psychologist. But it won’t happen.  I spoke at the University of Valencia, Spain how a behavioral psychologist could help reduce the 25% unemployment in Spain and no PhD in the room responded. I felt like a PC salesman trying to sell an Apple to a caveman.

I will stop here because there may be no point to continue unless you say that there is, after all Obama’s behavior itself indicates that he doesn’t believe that his behavior is leading to the terrible consequences in and out of the world. He doesn’t connect the dots that his behavior as CEO of the USA lead to the mess we are in and that it is time to change like he had promised 8 years ago. Well, Barak, let start with you adopting  a simple rule that will help you help others live a better life: Behavioral profiling is necessary in your life if you want to surround yourself with people who will help people advance in the world. And, the first behavioral profiling Americans should do is about who to marry, who to work with and who to befriend! Unfortunately, half of you already know thatfrom personal experience! Better luck to the other half! Study body language!

To all my visitors: I am going on a month vacation. See you in January 2015

December 6, 2014

I never forget you, guys. I know some of you are becoming regular visitors to my blogs and websites. You are the smart ones who realize that with me you will always get the information you need as is, simplified, summarized and ready to use. This posting is just a good-bye for a month, but because society is in pain nowadays, I will add, don’t forget that “Behavior is controlled by its consequences,” don’t do negative things expecting positive outcomes, it’s stupid, be smart, you are my visitor!

Dr. Elior K.

Hamas and others: Behavior is controlled by its consequences.

August 12, 2014

Netanyahu said, “Please Hamas, Israel has given you cash, credit, free electricity, gasoline, water services, medicine and food, please stop importing weapons and shooting rockets at us.” I used to give counseling to parents who raised kids with bratty behavior. I remember one very generous mother who said to her son, “Johnny, your dad and I bought you a car when you turned 18, please stop hanging around your friends who drink and take drugs and enroll in the local community college.” He didn’t listen. Now, that lady was smart. She came to see me, “Doctor, what am I doing wrong?” Netanyahu didn’t even answer my letter. Ladies and gentlemen, I taught Introduction to Psychology, Human Growth and Development, Personality, Mental Health 10, Personal and Social adjustment, Abnormal Psychology, and Parapsychology. I was a board member of the psychiatric technician program and the Child Center. I know what I am talking about. Contrary to what many people believe a reward for good behavior is not a bribe and a reward for bad behavior is not generosity. The first one is good parenting and the second one is poor values or even a suicidal ideation.

You are all my internet students now. I want you to choose a random day and walk around the mall or elsewhere where people gather and count how many individuals break this cardinal psychological rule, (It is called in Psychology Thorndike’s Law of Effect), mostly rewarding bad behavior in themselves or others.  Over the years about 30 churches in the United States quoted me from an article I wrote in the National Enquirer and other magazines (about 40 years ago) that the average parent makes 500 mistakes per day in raising their children! So, if you ever are in a group and someone says, “We need to find a way how to improve life in Americana,” I gave you that way this morning, “Reward good behavior and punish bad one, and know the difference.” By the way, don’t even get into this business without knowing the difference. About half the people think that good behavior is bad and bad behavior is good because they have a thinking mind, it all depends how you were raised. Good luck improving life in America! Start with yours! Don’t reward bad behavior in anyone, including yourself! Good luck!

Budgeting by dummies!

March 3, 2013

Believe it or not, it’s about the stupid Republicans and Democrats in Congress…yah, I know…you didn’t vote for them. I have a friend, nice family, 3 kids, a dog, nice house, RV trips, big spenders, know how to live high on the hog…why don’t they fight all the time about how to manage their income and expenses like the Democrats and Republics do in Congress?

Mary works as a bank teller supervisor. She makes $50,000 per year. Joe works as  senior plumber. He makes $40,000. Their old home is worth about $800,000.00. Their equity is $250,000 and mortgage is $3,000.00.  Educating the kids in the best universities is expensive, about  $30,000. Living expenses $30,000. Retraining to upgrade work related skills about $20,000. Insurances about $5,000. the Smith’s take out a $150,000 loan for home improvement, attached to the mortgage. They drive two nice cars they paid for in cash.  In short, Joe and Mary live with huge deficit spending, much like the US…but they don’t fight. Why?

1. They don’t waste money. They live well and get maximum value out of the bucks they spent. The US doesn’t.

2.  They spend a lot of money on education that will pay off when the time comes to pay off the extra bills. The US doesn’t

3. They maximise their borrowing power and borrow cheap (e.g., 2.5% per year). the US doesn’t.

4. They don’t give their money away to fraudulent charities and other lost causes. The US does.

5. They cut expenses without hurting services (e.g., Joe just switched to Northern Shield, saving $600 per year on home insurance. Mary just saved a bundle by changing phone companies, car insurance ,etc). The US doesn’t shop around for better products and services at the lowest costs.

6. I could go on and on (may be I will when I have more time), but you got the point. According to my lectures at Universities, Behavioral Economics, living on borrowed money is very sound financially if you are smart and responsible. According to Classical economics, the prevalent theory in Washington, you should balance your budget. You know how I know smarty people from the dummies? The stupid ones pay off their huge mortgage as fast as they can afford to so they can sleep at night! Have a smart day!

BUDDHA: “THE MIND IS THE SLAYER OF THE TRUTH.”

May 31, 2011

Yes, that is what the father of Buddhism said about the human mind. Add to that the sayings by the father of Psychoanalysis, Freud, “The mind is the beast in the cellar,” or Aristotle, the great philosopher,  “The mind is the genie in your head,” or Gordon Allport, the great psychologist, “The mind is functionally independent of you,” or the Bible, “The mind always calculates,” or the myriad of other statements about the human mind such as “The disowned Self, the mind that can do anything it wants,’ and you get the picture: YOUR MIND GENERATES ALL THE DECISIONS IN YOUR LIFE, AND THOSE DECISIONS THAT DON’T WORK YOU BLAME –  ON YOURSELF OR OTHERS. YOUR  MIND  CAN RUIN YOUR LIFE AND GET AWAY WITH IT. IF ANYONE EVER DID TO YOU WHAT YOUR MIND DOES TO YOU, YOU WILL DISAVOW YOURSELF FROM THAT PERSON!

Now, the irony of that truth above is that it is so easy to change for the better, to become more wealthy, healthy and happy. Forget Neuro-linguistic Programing (NLP), counseling, psychotherapy, confession, all programs to change the mind. All you need to do is SAY AND DO GOOD THINGS NO MATTER WHAT’S IN YOUR HEAD! You see, there is no way you can change your negative thoughts and feelings except by contrary verbal or nonverbal action! There is no other way.

I am a 75-year-old retired psychologist. Thirty years ago I decided to quit smoking. How did I do it? I changed what I was saying to people, my behavior changed, not my cravings. The cravings disappeared after a week when my MIND realized that I chose to “lie in the service of the truth” as Dr. Brunner, the great psychologist would call it. On the first day without a cigaret, a fried asked me, “Would you like a cigaret?” I said, “No, I have no craving for a cigaret, no desire to smoke, in fact I can’t even smell the smoke in the room anymore.” A week later I said, “Quitting smoking is the easiest thing to do in life.” Everyone turned to look at me (you know the look) because they didn’t know that I was “lying in the service of the truth.” Only my MIND knew that I finally decided to pick up the only psychological tool that is always stronger than the MIND – lying in the service of the truth! My mind changed and became my ally!

I have given you today the most powerful psychological tool to change your life, make more money, have better health and happiness. Remember, what you say can change your life. Telling the truth if its negative will ruin your life (you’ll always wonder but you’ll never know why things don’t work for you). Go for lying but do it the correct way, not your mind’s way. Be careful, your mind will try to take over the process and slay the truth that Buddha just gave you through me. Good luck!

C-MOR and the power of money.

November 6, 2010

I need your help. What would you do if you discovered something that could save millions of people from a life of quiet desperation, but the thing is that although it is simple to do, it is not in the zeitgeist of humanity? It is not done! What would you do? I need your help with a new idea. All I can think of is C-MOR, and although it’s a great answer, I need your help because no one is listening! C-MOR is the code of conduct in my life. C-MOR brought me wealth, health and happiness. C-MOR has some influence on my immediate family through me but not enough to prevent their major challenges, they too have to live within the zeitgeist, the “box.” What would you do to get people to start doing what works when it is not in their “programming”????

C-MOR is Contingency Management Of Resources. Dr. Freud the psychoanalyst from Vienna talked about it in his books about sexual behavior to no avail, in fact people ridiculed him, Dr. Skinner the behaviorist from Harvard described it in his book with regard to human relations (Walden II) to no avail, Dr. Pavlov the physiologist from Moscow explain it in his manuals with regard to emotions to no avail, and I described it in my book The Psychology of Investing with regard to wealth accumulation to no avail.

Read this posting on C-MOR and the power of money, not as just another story and another story that you read every day. I want you to GET IT. If enough people around me get it, my human environment will get better and I will benefit too. What do I want you to get is that money has about a 1000% more power to influence beliefs than you ever thought. I know, you might think that the banking criminals that perpetrated our severe recession got away with it without getting punished because of other reasons but the truth is that they used the power of their money to influence the Courts, to change the perception of judges, Congress, the reduction in legislation of new laws, and quiet public opinion to throw them out of office. You, through your representatives let them keep the money they stole from the American people and not have to go to jail! They spent billions to get back the trust of Congress and retain their jobs in Wall Street and in – Congress itself (as the election demonstrated). The criminals used their C-MOR well, but not you. You voted for the same people who stole our money (I know you don’t believe that because you think that we have a new Congress). Why do you think most economists in the last 20 years approved relaxing the government regulation of the economy? They knew that it will lead to this terrible recession, but they were paid very well to blind their own PhD in economics from Harvard. Even Milton Friedman himself, the principal economist who advised governments changed his economic orientation  from Kinasian to Smithsonian. Greenspan too. The power of money is clandestine but blatant. Even in your life if you get divorced, God forbids,  the reason will be that C-MOR failed in your relationship in the area of money or sex, but in 27 years of college teaching I have not met one student getting married who took C-MOR seriously. What is the verdict? Zeitgeist? The same people who perpetrated the recession, unemployment, loss of homes and general misery around the world are still running the show. It will happen again I suppose until the Cro-magnon acquires a C-MOR gene through evolution, but when that happens everyone will deny it and CNN’s ratings will sky-rocket through discussions. :c

Shana Tova: Follow my blogs to health, wealth and happiness!

September 20, 2010

Today is the birthday of the second of the two very caring live-in care givers from Nepal that I hired for my 21-year-old disabled son. I take all 6 people who live in my 6,500 s/f home in the woods to town for a fancy dinner at a French-Cuban restaurant with original South American wall paintings and exotic atmosphere. Today, my stock investing doubled in a year. Today, my cancer is in total remission. Today I celebrate 28 years of perfect second marriage. Today I plan a vacation to Israel and California. Today is the first day of the rest of the life of this immigrant who spoke no English when he arrived in New york with $100 in his pocket in 1961. I bless and renew my wonderful life every day. How do I do it? More importantly, can you achieve the good life by following my blogs?

The answer is a qualified “Yes” if you can read, discover, understand, write down and follow the unchanging rules described in more than 77 postings on my Psychology of Investing blog. “Yes” if you can incorporate these unchanging rules into a new “life Style” for yourself. “Yes” if you can get  the “flavor” of how people feel about what they read in my blogs by reading their 46+ comments. As you can see, I am not popular, but what I blog for you works! And, “Yes” if you can incorporate into your new “life style” the ideas presented in 137 postings (and 124 responses) on my Peaceful Revolution blog.

There are 2 kinds of visitors to sources of information on the Internet, those that follow ideas because of a person and those that follow ideas because of the ideas. 10% of the visitors follow my ideas because they discovered who I am, believe in my knowledge and learn to trust and respect me, and 90% of the visitors follow my ideas because they “surf” the WWW and find ideas from 1000 other blogs.  They follow commonsense ideas, not “gurus.” Well, here is more ideas that work for the “lucky” 10% !

This time it is about wealth: Let’s say you stopped putting money into an IRA in 1990 to get a Fed tax deduction, and decided to put your max of $4,000 per year into a smart Roth IRA instead. Capish? Let’s say that you put all your Roth IRAs for the next 20 years into AAPL. Do you know that today you will be sitting on more than $5,000,000.00 tax-free! You didn’t diversify like they told you. You didn’t keep your money liquid like they told you. You didn’t buy Mining companies with your Roth IRA like they told you. You bought a piece of Steven Jobs! I know, it is not politically correct to tell you, but did you know that Warren Buffett didn’t think diversifying assets is necessary if you are smart! Did you know that keeping your money liquid is good for the economy – not for you as an investor. The list of misguided rules is as long as history! You now know why you always get less in life than what you expect or deserve to get.

Think about it, my blogs do not sell you anything that is not in libraries and I don’t make a penny if you follow my blogs or not, the gain is all yours, the only reason I want you to type “Dr. Elior Kinarthy” on Google and start following my ideas is that I care about you as a fellow human being who finds life difficult and in return makes the lives of others difficult. I want back the good planet as God intended it to be! Type my name on Google and get to work on a better “life Style” for yourself.  As Jack Rosenberg from Philadelphia once said, “I know that you know that I love you, What I want you to know is that I know you love me.”

The Apple Tree Has Become the Money Tree!

April 22, 2010

AAPL hit $261, getting close to my $300 prediction in late 2008. My 2 incredible blogs are a gold mine for my followers, people who are tired of the old rules that got them screwed and want rules that work for a change. I will help them get out of the conundrum thinking box. I will do something that I haven’t done before. Since the traffic to this psychological advice blog is twice as much as the traffic to my behavioral investing and finance blog, I decided to switch topics – just this time!

Steven Jobs is making my followers rich.  Go to Yahoo right now (April 22, 2010 at 12), bring up AAPL and read that the median target estimate (MTE) is $310 while the mean target estimate is only $296.65…. should have been reversed because of the high volume of buying AAPL. Go to my 2009 book The Psychology of Investing, and read “Since the median is more representative of a company than the mean, a ratio of median/mean higher than “one” may be predictive of good things to come.” (page 121). You will not find this information applied to stock prices anywhere in books or the internet, and you should not use any information from my blogs to invest either unless you took my workshops and have passed my total training with an “A” grade. Don’t turn the money tree into a monkey tree. Short cuts in life don’t work. They make you poor. You lose your good relationships.  Shorting anything “sucks”! God bless wise people!
